Pulsar 200cc Officially Launched!

Pulsar 200cc Officially Launched!

NEW DELHI: Bajaj Auto is targeting to cross the Rs. 10,000-crore turnover mark this fiscal with sales of 2.8 million vehicles, Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director, said here on Tuesday.

Launching the company’s new 200 cc `Pulsar’ motorcycle, Mr. Bajaj told reporters that the company expected a topline growth of 25 per cent over the last fiscal, even as it focussed on higher engine capacity and sporty performance motorcycles for its future course with a slew of launches scheduled.

"By May, the Pulsar 220 cc with fuel injection will be launched and the following month the 200 cc cruiser bike Avenger should hit the market,'’ Mr. Bajaj said. The company had made a conscious decision to move away from the lower margin, low capacity bikes and would give emphasis on higher cubic capacity motorcycles.

“We are increasing production of Pulsar and by June it should touch 60,000 units,'’ he said, adding that the company would gradually phase out its entry-level bikes `Platina’ and `CT-100.’

He said the to-be-launched fuel injection technology DTS-i 220 cc bike could cost about Rs. 80,000-Rs 85,000, while the just launched 200 cc Pulsar DTS-i had been priced at Rs. 65,497

So thats a much awaited news! the official launch date of Pulsar 220cc DtsFi . Now we may hope that Bajaj wont shifts from the ‘officially’ announced launch date! And about the pricing of Pulsar 200cc , its Perfect! I bought my 180cc for the same price. :(

Pulsar 200

Yes, what you see in the picture is a Bajaj Pulsar. No, it is not the revamped Pulsar-180.

No, Bajaj hasn’t given a secret makeover for the much-anticipated 220 cc DTS-FI.

This, hold your breath, biker boyz, is a Pulsar-200!

Merely weeks after springing a revamped Pulsar 180 on us without any buzz or promotions, Bajaj has pulled another fast one yet again.

Despite being parked in the shadows of its bigger sibling, the P-200 is the first brute that catches your eye at the Auto Expo in Mumbai.

The squat, 18 bhp, oil-cooled beast ensures that you don’t even throw as much as a cursory glance towards the much-hyped DTS-FI.
The naked chain makes gives it the perfect, mean, made-for-the-streets look.

To be launched in Bajaj’s pro-biking showrooms in January 2007, (that’s what the Bajaj guy in the stall at the expo promised) the P-200 has most of the goodies from the bigger Pulsar. Tubeless tyres, the LCD speedo/analog tacho dash, split seats, two-piece grab rails, you name it and the P-200 has it.

Everything except the fuel injection, that is.

The bike, according to the Bajaj guys, is said to be "slightly costlier than the Pulsar 180." Which means, come January you must be able to lay your hands on the beast at around a miserly Rs 70,000.
These pictures should keep you rubbing your palms and smacking your lips till then.
Just in case images of the P-220 are still in your memory, the DTS-FI will be out by April 2007, we are promised.

Bajaj Launches Pulsar 200

Pune-based two-wheeler manufacturer Bajaj Auto Ltd on Tuesday unveiled 200 cc Pulsar DTS-i and said the company would have a turnover of Rs 10,000 crore in the current financial year, up nearly 25 per cent from 2005-06. "We expect the net profit to increase by 10 to 15 per cent this year," Bajaj Auto managing director Rajeev Bajaj told newsmen. Pulsar 200 will carry a price tag of Rs 65,497 (ex-showroom in the Capital).

Bajaj Auto had posted a net profit of Rs 1101.63 crore in 2005-06. The company hopes to sell 2.8 million units of vehicles in 2006-07. Of this, 2.5 million will be motorcycles.

Bajaj parried all queries on reports about demerger of Bajaj Auto into separate financial and automobile companies. "This is not a demerger meeting," he told newsmen.

The company hopes to sell 50,000 units of Pulsar per month from June, which will be available in 150 cc, 180 cc, 200 cc, and 220 cc engine capacities. In January, Bajaj Auto sold 43,000 units of Pulsar.

Bajaj Auto will be unveiling its new platform of motorcycles in July-September this year. The company had last week announced exit from the 100 cc motorcycle segment.

"We are confident that the majority of 100 cc buyers would shift to the new segment within a year. The 100 cc market will come down from 61 per cent to 20 per cent," Bajaj asserted.

He ruled out any price increase of motorcycles as the company was operating on 14.20 per cent margin. "We hope to sustain the present operating margins in the fourth quarter too," he added.

Bajaj said the company plans to set up a 5 lakh per annum greenfield project to manufacture 3 and 4-wheelers. "The scale of operation is essential for the successful operation of the project. We will identifying the site of the new project this year," he stated. The 4-wheeler would be a goods carrier, he clarified.

Bajaj Auto plans to shift the low-end motorcycles manufacturing to its Pantnagar plant so as to advantage of the tax benefits offered by the State government. The excess capacity at the existing Aurangabad factory will be utilised for making Pulsar and other motorcycles, Bajaj stated

Pulsar 200 Inputs

The Pulsar directly monitors over 30 sensor inputs. The monitored sensor inputs are used to provide additional calculated engine information.

The sensors(transducers) are configurable by the user using the configuration editor software.
Monitored Parameter Comments
Temperature Information
Exhaust gas temperature (EGT) For 4,6 and 8 cylinder engines.
Cylinder head temperature (CHT)
Maximum EGT Highest temperature for all monitored EGT sensors. Key reading for proper engine leaning.
Maximum CHT Highest temperature for all monitored CHT sensors.
EGT span Difference between highest and lowest EGT (or CHT) sensors. Helpful in identifying problems with individual engine cylinders.
CHT span
Coolant temperature For water-cooled engines.
Carburetor air temperature Can be used to provide a carburetor ice warning.
Outside air temperature
Pulsar internal temperature Can monitor and report on the Pulsar's internal temperature.
Performance Information
Tachometer Inputs for inductive pickup, dual electronic ignition or magnetos.
Manifold air pressure
Fuel System Information
Fuel flow #1 Can monitor fuel flow from two tanks or a supply and return fuel line in a fuel-injected system.
Fuel flow #2
Total fuel flow Sum of fuel flow #1 and #2.
Fuel flow difference For fuel-injected engines. Difference between inlet and return fuel flow.
Fuel pressure
Fuel level tank #1 Fuel tank level sensors are calibrated to your tank's specific geometry.
Fuel level tank #2
Total fuel level Sum of fuel tank level #1 and #2.
Fuel time remaining Calculated based on current fuel level and fuel flow.

The customization option gives the user full control over the units 16 thermocouple inputs, 3 tachometer inputs, and the 15 configurable inputs. This unprecedented level of control allows the user to connect almost any sensor to the unit.
Plus with the customizable option the user can do additional calculations based on sensor inputs. For example if you have temperatures in Fahrenheit you can also show all the temperatures in Celsius at the same time.
Additionally you can do calculations based on multiple sensor inputs. For example you can monitor the left and right magneto and subtract the tachometer readings and set an alarm to activate if there is a difference. This would enable the pilot to be notified if one of the magnetos had a hard failure during flight.
